A team from Firestone Liberia Senior High School has won the best performing school trophy at Strathmore University’s International Mathematics competition held recently in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
A total of 114 students from 17 high schools across Liberia participated in this year’s competition, an annual tradition sponsored by the prestigious Kenyan University and held in different African countries each year.
This year’s honor follows last year’s success whereby two Firestone Liberia Senior High School students - Stephen Mason and Elijah Sawo – won mathematics scholarships from Strathmore University covering tuition costs.
“We are so proud of our students as they continue to excel in public examinations as evidenced by results in educational competitions and also at institutions of higher learning,” said D. Mulbah Gayflor, Principal of the Firestone Liberia Senior High School.
Firestone Liberia remains committed to driving the highest standards of inclusive and accessible education. With 27 schools and approximately 12,000 students enrolled, the company operates the largest concession-run school system in Liberia at no cost to its workers. Additionally, Firestone invests approximately $150,000 a year to provide higher education scholarships to qualified students in Liberia.
