2010/11 Scholarship Program Application Process Now Open

Firestone Liberia is pleased to announce the opening of the application process for its 2010/11 Academic Year Scholarship program aimed at benefiting deserving Liberian students from all around the country. Firestone Liberia is now accepting applications for primary, secondary and full-time undergraduate students during the 2010/11 academic year.

SUBMISSION

Current Firestone Liberia (FSLB) Scholarship Recipients

Students who are current recipients of the FSLB Scholarship should submit Original sealed transcripts from his/her current academic institution to the Firestone Liberia Scholarship Committee NO LATER THAN 4:00 PM on July 27, 2010. In order to have an automatic rollover of his/her scholarship for the 2010/11 academic year, he/she must have maintained an aggregate GPA of 85% and above for Grade 2 - 12 or 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for undergraduate during the 2009/10 academic year.  Additionally, students graduating from grades 6, 9, and 12 must submit a copy of his/her WAEC Certificate indicating that he/she has passed.

If the student has satisfied these criteria, there is no need to re-test. The student will be automatically awarded a scholarship for the 2010/11 academic year at the same institution attended during the 2009/10 academic year.

NOTE that if the student decides to attend a different school, he/she must submit a request and get approval from the FSLB Scholarship Committee in order for the scholarship to be transferred. 

If the student has not met the automatic rollover criterion, he/she will have to re-apply as a New Applicant (See Below).

New Applicants

Application forms will be available at the FSLB Industrial Relations Department (Labor Office) or via the website at http://www.firestonenaturalrubber.com/scholarship.htm beginning June 28, 2010.  Interested applicants should submit a completed application form, along with the following supporting documents, to the Firestone Liberia Scholarship Committee - Industrial Relations (Labor Office) - in sealed envelopes or via the internet at FSLBScholarship@firestonenaturalrubber.com. Applications are due NO LATER THAN 4:00 PM on July 23, 2010.

  • Proof of Liberian citizenship (copy of Birth Certificate or Passport)
  • Records of academic achievement
    • Original Sealed Transcript from current or last school attended with an aggregate GPA of 90% and above for Grade 2 - 12 and 3.5 on a 4.0 scale for undergraduate
    • Copy of WAEC Certificate (Grades 6, 9, and 12)
    • Evidence of full-time enrollment at or acceptance to an accredited academic institution
  • Fee structure from academic institution attending or accepted at
  • Three Letter(s) of reference

Pre-qualified applicants, once they have been identified, will be invited to participate in the second phase of qualification, which will include the following:

  • Standardized testing in the areas of Math, Science, and Social Studies (according to grade level)
  • Completion of an essay (100 words or less (Elementary, Junior & Senior High School applicants) and 300 words or less Undergraduate applicants) - Topics will be given at the time of testing.

Pre-qualified applicants will be notified via the website, newspaper, radio, and FSLB Bulletin Boards. Testing will be conducted at the Firestone Liberia High School Gym on a date to be announced.

Finalists will be notified via the website, newspaper, radio, and FSLB Bulletin Boards. Upon notification, scholarship recipients will need to submit a letter of acceptance from an academic institution approved by the Ministry of Education. Upon verification of enrollment, scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to the Institution.
