Firestone Liberia Commended For Improvement In Its Educational Programs
HARBEL, Liberia, West Africa (August 10, 2007)- Speaking at the closing program of the Division 16 Junior High School, Dr. Samuel Monwell, President of the Monrovia Bible College, commended Firestone Liberia for the improvements made in its educational programs.
Monwell called on the students to think of themselves as students in the quest for sound education, as Firestone Liberia provides a conducive atmosphere for quality education. He also challenged the parents to support the efforts of Firestone Liberia by helping protect the company’s properties.
Monwell frowned on those who are in the habit of illicitly tapping Firestone’s rubber trees. He said that the act of illicit tapping within the concession area of Firestone Liberia is not acceptable and called on those involved to desist. He added that illicit tapping was destroying innocent lives and killing the rubber industry.
At the ceremony, Rufus Karmorh, Public Affaris Manager of Firestone Liberia, challenged the students to prepare themselves for national leadership positions both in the public and private sectors. Karmorh said that the only way one can attain such a goal is to stay in school and strive for academic excellence.
Karmorh also discussed that Firestone Liberia employs about 6,000 Liberians and has awarded housing construction contracts to Liberian owned-construction firms, thereby placing additional disposable income within the Liberian economy.
Karmorh added that Firestone has become a champion of human resource development in Margibi County, with more than 13,000 students freely enrolled in 22 schools within the concession area.
