Firestone Liberia Rewards Top High School Student, Calls For High Academic Standards

HARBEL, Liberia, West Africa (December 8, 2006)- Students of the Firestone Senior High School have been called upon to strive for high academic standards in the pursuit of quality education, which is vital to national growth and development.

Speaking Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006, when he presented a wristwatch to Jeffery Henry of the 10-A class, the student with the highest marks for the first marking period, Firestone Liberia Public Affairs Manager G. Rufus Karmorh informed members of the class that Firestone was highly interested in the academic performance of students of the Firestone Senior High School.

Speaking Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006, when he presented a wristwatch to Jeffery Henry of the 10-A class, the student with the highest marks for the first marking period, Firestone Liberia Public Affairs Manager G. Rufus Karmorh informed members of the class that Firestone was highly interested in the academic performance of students of the Firestone Senior High School.

Karmorh further challenged other members of the class and the rest of the students to put in more time to their studies so as to acquire the requisite education that would warrant their participation in the overall development of Liberia.

For her part, Dwede D. Hoto, Superintendent of the Firestone School System, thanked Henry for a “job well done” and called on every student of the Firestone School System to work for academic excellence.

Hoto encouraged the students to make maximum use of the modern educational facilities Firestone Liberia has placed at their disposal by ensuring that they enroll, study and remain in school for a better tomorrow.

Henry obtained the overall average of 94.1 for the first marking period to come first among his colleagues.

Firestone Senior High School Principal Patrick Kaikai and instructor Precious A.C. Barmadia were on hand to witness the presentation.

Firestone Liberia now owns and operates 21 schools with more than 12,000 students enrolled.

The Firestone Medical Center at Duside is hosting volunteer doctors from Children's Surgery International to perform cleft lip, cleft palate and other surgeries and treatment for underprivileged children in Liberia.
