Firestone Expands Educational Facilities

HARBEL, Liberia, West Africa (September 29, 2006)- Firestone Liberia has announced the completion of 21 additional classrooms in Divisions 16, 40 and 44 respectively.

This was disclosed by Firestone Liberia Construction Manager Ligori Sekajipo after touring the newly completed educational facilities. According to Sekajipo, six new classrooms were added to the existing facilities at Division 16, another six at Division 40 and nine at Division 44. A computer laboratory is also nearing completion to add on to the facility at Division 44.

Sekajipo said the construction of the additional classrooms was necessary at this time to meet the huge in-flux of students in these parts of the concession area. “We are investing in education in terms of rebuilding schools after the devastating civil war,” said Mr. G. Rufus Karmorh, Firestone Liberia Public Affairs Manager. “We are doing more to help children in Liberia and will remain a strong supporter of educational development,” he added.

The Operations Superintendent of the Firestone School System, Mr. George B. Caine, also disclosed that the new facilities are expected to be fully utilized this academic year to satisfy the learning desire of the increased number of students in these respective areas.

Mr. Caine praised Firestone Liberia for the level of interest it continues to show in the future leaders of Liberia by heavily investing in the education of its employees’ children.

He expressed the hope that parents will continue to encourage their children to make maximum use of the educational opportunities Firestone is placing at the children’s disposal free of charge by entering and remaining in school for a better future.

Caine also lauded Firestone Liberia for its continuous support for the activities of the Education Department, which he noted has strengthened the resolve of teachers and other members of the department to work harder than before.

Mr. Caine further assured that the Education Department is prepared more than ever before to continue to mold the minds of the younger generation of Liberians enrolled within the Firestone School System so as to enable those students meet future challenges of national growth and development.
