Margibi County Health Officer Commends Firestone Liberia
HARBEL, Liberia, West Africa (Aug. 31, 2006)- An officer of the Margibi County Health Team has commended Firestone Liberia for its continuous contribution to the health care delivery system of the county.
The Disease Surveillance Officer of Margibi County, Mr. Moses Logan Sr., said besides the storage of vaccines for the county, Firestone Liberia has always assisted the County Health Team in the implementation of the Government of Liberia/UNICEF vaccination campaigns for the eradication of childhood diseases.
According to the Margibi County Disease Surveillance Officer, Firestone, through its Medical Department, has always allowed health assistants assigned within the concession area to work along with the County Health Team in the proper administering of vaccines to targeted groups. He noted that Firestone has made transportation available to deliver vaccines to designated sites during previous campaigns.
Mr. Logan, who was speaking in Harbel shortly before the start of the second round of the
tetanus toxiod or “TT” campaign for women of child-bearing age (14 to 49 years) narrated that Firestone has actively participated in previous vaccination campaigns launched by the Government of the Republic of Liberia in collaboration with UNICEF.
He disclosed that “Round Two” of the tetanus vaccination campaign is covering the four districts of the county; targeting about 15,722 women of child-bearing age within the Firestone District alone.
Mr. Logan, who is also coordinator of the tetanus eradication campaign in Margibi County, further disclosed that children from 2 to 5 years old are being vaccinated against worms and treated with vitamin A to improve their sight.
He expressed the hope that the second round of the tetanus eradication campaign will be characterized by similar cooperation the County Health Team has received from Firestone Liberia.
