Firestone Recognizes Library Users
HARBEL, Liberia, West Africa (July 3, 2006)- A Liberian student says the Community Library established by the Management of Firestone Liberia in Harbel is helping to accelerate the learning process within the concession area and its environs.
Student Tambah Gertee of the 12-1 Class of the Harbel Multilateral High School said the Harbel Community Library has afforded many students the opportunity to improve their skills in reading, spelling, history, geography and other subjects in their various educational institutions.
According to Student Gertee, the establishment of the library has immensely assisted students of the Firestone School System and non Firestone schools to excel in their academic works; stressing that: “this library will go a long way in assisting many students to prepare for the future challenges ahead”.
The Harbel Multilateral High School senior student who was speaking recently at a recognition program of library users, organized by the Education Department of Firestone Liberia, further urged his fellow students to utilize the library facilities provided by Firestone so as to brighten their knowledge for the achievement of sound and quality education.
The Superintendent of the Firestone School System, Mrs.
Dwede D. Hoto commended the organizers of the program and called on the honorees to use their recognition as a stepping stone to use their spare times in the library adding: “This library is here because of you and you must make the maximum use of it.”
For his part, the Supervisor of the Firestone School System, Mr. Charles Massaley, who presented the awards to the students, urged them to encourage other students who are misusing their spare times to visit the library to broaden their knowledge. He told the students that making use of the library would benefit them in the future emphasizing that: “Reading makes a man.”
Students Tryphena Koilor, Bendu Barmadia, Gorma Gertee, Mamai Ballah, John Kollie, Sylvester Tamba, Uriah Flomo and Aaron Mineen were among those who received awards as frequent users of
the Library. Others were Helena Fars, Elizabeth Morris, Susan Saul, Susannah Williams, Prince Forkpa, Emmanuel Ballah and Tambah Gertee.
According to statistics, a total of 615 (six hundred and fifteen) students were frequent users of the Firestone Community Library from the period April 2006 to June 23, 2006.
Out of this number, 202 (two hundred and two) came from the Firestone School System, 50 (fifty) from the Harbel Multilateral High School, 40 (forty) from the St. Pius Catholic High School and 30 (thirty) from the Assembly of God High School.
