Firestone Scholarship Program Provides Tuition For Students Across Liberia

While Firestone Liberia provides K-12 schooling free of charge to children of its employees, public education elsewhere in Liberia is not free. Since 2008, the Firestone Scholarship Program has provided tuition for deserving students throughout the country to attend the primary, secondary or undergraduate institution of their choice.

Free Rubber Tree Sapling Distribution Program Launches In Bong, Nimba Counties

Following through on its pledge to provide 700,000 free rubber seedlings to independent Liberian rubber farmers for the 2010 planting season, Firestone Liberia launched its annual Rubber Tree Distribution Program in Bong County on June 17 and Nimba County on July 2.

New Collective Bargaining Agreement Signals Continued Partnership At Firestone Liberia

The Firestone Liberia community is celebrating the signing of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement between Firestone Liberia and the Firestone Agricultural Workers Union of Liberia (FAWUL). The agreement, signed today, signals the parties' continuing partnership as they work together to revitalize the natural rubber industry and help rebuild the company's operations.

Firestone Medical Center At Duside Hosts Launch of National Polio Eradication Campaign

Dr. Walter T. Gwenigale, Minister of Health and Social Welfare in Liberia, recently joined other health care officials at the Firestone Medical Center at Duside to launch the final round of Liberia's national Polio Eradication Campaign. The theme of the campaign is "Kicking Polio Out of Liberia."

When my wife, Becky, and I returned to Liberia in 2008 to help restore the African Bible College in Yepeka, we found a devastated campus. The college's 20 buildings had been destroyed during the war — looted, blown up and burned. We wondered how to even begin our restoration mission.
