Brick by Brick: The Business of Rebuilding Liberia
3,000 Books Delivered to Liberia with the Help of Firestone Liberia's Donation Cargo Program
Earlier this year, 13-year-old Casey Robbins and her parents shipped 3,000 books and several boxes of toys — a total of $24,000 worth of goods — from their community in California to children in Liberia. The books and toys — which were sent through Firestone Liberia's Donation Cargo Program on one of the company's ships — were delivered to the Ministry of Education, the Monrovia Consolidated School System and orphanages throughout the community.
At a presentation ceremony in honor of the Robbins family, Liberian Deputy Minister of Public Affairs, Gabriel I. H. Williams, expressed his thanks and appreciation for the generous donation and for all of Casey's efforts, as well as for those who contributed. He also thanked Firestone Liberia for providing such an honorable service.
This isn't the first time Casey has shipped goods to the people of Liberia. In 2007, she was inspired to lend a hand after hearing an interview with Minister Williams on the U.S.-based National Public Radio. At that time she collected 450 textbooks from the San Juan Unified School District in Sacramento County, Calif., to send to Monrovia Consolidated School.
The Donation Cargo Program wouldn't exist without the generosity of people like Casey, her parents and everyone who donated items. Thank you!
