Brick by Brick: The Business of Rebuilding Liberia
Firestone Liberia, Students to Participate in U.S. Embassy Spelling Bee this Weekend
The competition is heating up as the finalists travel from all over Liberia to compete in the finale of the spelling bee sponsored by the American Library at the United States Embassy in Liberia. This contest has consumed Meg Riggs, Public Affairs Officer of the United States Embassy, for the past few months as she has traveled from county to county to host spelling bees at the participating schools. Four students from each of the 15 counties she visited have been chosen to participate.
Firestone Liberia is proud to be a part of such an exciting educational opportunity for these students. We've joined with the American Embassy Community and Monrovia Brewery Incorporated to contribute the cash award that will be given to the first, second and third place winners of the finale. The $2,400, $1,600 and $1,200 prizes, respectively, will be deposited into a local bank in the winners' names to go toward tuition.
We're particularly excited for the three Firestone School System students who are competing. Genesis Tamba, a fifth grade student at the Division 13 elementary school, Abraham Morris, a fifth grade student at the Division 43 elementary school, and Kesselle Koiwood, a fifth grade student at the Division 45 elementary school, will be representing Firestone Liberia in the final competition.
At Firestone Liberia, a child's education is of the upmost importance. We are proud to see the children succeed, and we will be cheering all of them on when they compete this Saturday.
