Brick by Brick: The Business of Rebuilding Liberia

By Land and By Sea

Firestone Liberia is known for providing nearly 7,000 land-based jobs on its rubber tree farm in Liberia. But now the company is teaming up with the Liberian Bureau of Maritime Affairs to start an internship program aimed at strengthening the country’s seafaring workforce. Interns accepted into the program will get valuable, hands-on work experience on two of Firestone’s Liberia-flagged ships. On-the-job training in the maritime industry has been almost nonexistent in the country for nearly 20 years due to the devastating effects of the civil war.

For more information about the program, read the recent FrontPage Africa article.
