Brick by Brick: The Business of Rebuilding Liberia

High School Student Delivers 45,000 Books Despite Accident

Gregg Henzler, a senior at Cansisius High School in Buffalo, N.Y., would let nothing stop his effort to collect and deliver 45,000 books to children in distressed countries. Not even a fiery car accident.

Gregg, along with his father, Gregg Henzler Sr., rented a truck to haul the thousands of books across Western New York to the Baltimore shore where they were to meet the Firestone shipping agent. The father-son duo were delayed, however, when their rental truck flipped causing them to lose 200 books. The Henzlers were not injured and remained persistent in their journey. Following the accident, they rented another truck to continue on their way.

The books were shipped through Firestone's Donation Cargo Program on Friday, Sept. 26, and have arrived in Caldwell, Liberia. From there, the books have been delivered to the Holy Family Parish and the Elizabeth Tubman Memorial Institute, a newly rebuilt library.
