The Economist Praises President's Agreement with Firestone

A recent article in The Economist praised President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for cracking down on government corruption and for improving Liberia’s economic prospects.

One way President Sirleaf has energized the economy is by negotiating and signing investment agreements with companies such as Firestone and ArcelorMittal.  

The author calls the Firestone agreement, in which the company agreed to invest in better housing for its workers, "innovative" and writes that "Liberia's government sees this as a model for other large-scale farming enterprises damaged in the war."
