Brick by Brick: The Business of Rebuilding Liberia

Firestone Signs New Labor Contract

Following collective bargaining negotiations, Firestone and the Firestone Agricultural Workers Union of Liberia (FAWUL) have signed a new labor agreement. The contract is beneficial for both the company and our employees as we continue to help rebuild the country after 14 years of civil war.

Since the war, Firestone has invested almost $59 million in improving conditions in Liberia and intends to invest tens of millions more.

Firestone employees, who have long been represented by a union, are among the highest-paid workers in Liberia and also receive free housing, medical care and education for their children, as well as paid vacation, subsidized food and a retirement pension.
