Brick by Brick: The Business of Rebuilding Liberia

By the Numbers

Firestone Liberia has published its biannual statistics report, which shows just how much progress the company has made in rebuilding the nation's schools, hospitals and employee housing since the end of the civil war and the signing of new investment agreements with the Republic of Liberia. The numbers speak for themselves:

  • 988. The number of homes built or renovated.
  • 15,000. The number of children who attend Firestone schools free of charge.
  • 18. The number of Firestone-operated health care facilities that treat employees and their dependents at no cost to them. Firestone's Duside Hospital is scheduled to reopen as an inpatient treatment facility in late 2008.
  • 430,000. The number of rubber tree seedlings that have been distributed to small Liberian rubber farms so far this year.
