Brick by Brick: The Business of Rebuilding Liberia

Extending the Rule of Law

This past January, I had the privilege of attending a multidisciplinary outreach meeting in Ghana of the World Justice Project (WJP). WJP is a multidisciplinary and multinational initiative of the American Bar Association focused on fostering human well being by advancing the rule of law.

This was an exceptional opportunity because it brought professionals from nearly all fields — legal, medical, business and public affairs — together to identify ways and means in which the rule of law can be reinforced or strengthened in our respective countries.

This type of meeting is, in my opinion, still a novelty in many developing nations like Liberia. Many still view such meetings as a forum for only lawyers. But, this approach underscores the need to go beyond the legal field to instill the importance of establishing the rule of law across all of society to promote justice, fairness, fundamental human rights, greater accountability and dispute settlement.

I was proud to represent my country and my company at this important meeting. To learn more about WJP, you can go here.
